BPC to Host Expert Discussion of Energy
Innovation at Department of Defense

Event to Coincide with Release of New Report on Opportunities and Limits for DoD Energy Innovation Role

Current and Former Pentagon Experts to Examine Implications for DoD and U.S. Policy

Washington, D.C. – The Bipartisan Policy Center will hold a policy discussion with leading experts Wednesday, March 28 on the opportunities and challenges at the Department of Defense (DoD) for accelerating advanced energy technologies.

In recent years, driven by the demands of combat as well as budgetary stress, the U.S. Department of Defense has increasingly focused on the ways in which energy affects its operations and the opportunities to improve its performance through the development and adoption of advanced energy technologies. Although DoD has been one of the most potent innovators in history, its security mission will always take priority.  Therefore, a key challenge for policymakers is maximizing DoD's capacity to contribute to progress on energy-related technologies in ways that also advance its security mission.

The event March 28th will focus on the opportunities and challenges at DoD for accelerating advanced energy technologies, feature leading defense and innovation experts, and highlight findings from a new BPC-commissioned report, Energy Innovation at the Department of Defense: Assessing the Opportunities, by the Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes at Arizona State University and the Clean Air Task Force.  Reports will be available at the event.
