S.C. county's suit over Yucca Mountain has no merit, lawyers say
South Carolina's Aiken County does not have the legal standing to intervene in the federal government's move to withdraw its application for the Yucca Mountain nuclear-waste repository in Nevada, according to lawyers for the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. "By Aiken County's own account, it will not suffer its alleged harms unless and until the NRC makes a final decision on the withdrawal motion," court documents show. The county filed a petition in a federal appeals court in February to block the closure of the project. Aiken Standard (S.C.)
