The Federation of American Scientists is excited to share the latest report by the FAS Task Force Model, France's Choice for Naval Nuclear Propulsion: Why Low-Enriched Uranium Was Chosen.

Written by a lead architect of France's naval nuclear propulsion program, Alain Tournyol du Clos, this special report details the benefits, trade-offs, and reason that the French Navy ultimately chose LEU over HEU (highly enriched uranium) for its nuclear propulsion program: defense budget savings.

The findings in this report are of paramount importance for other nations considering switching to LEU and especially for the United States Navy and Congress. With president-elect Donald Trump's inauguration fast approaching, there are key decisions to be made in the Trump administration pertaining to what is written in this special report.
